Bio

I am a computer scientist and software engineer from Porto, Portugal, completing a PhD in Computer Engineering at the University of Porto.

  • Turn ambiguous technical problems into architecture, milestones, working software and documentation across 8+ years of research and engineering.
  • Led an EU Horizon 2020-funded GNU social rewrite, replacing legacy foundations with a Symfony-based architecture while coordinating releases, accessibility and community work.

Leadership style. I work well in high-agency teams: written decisions, explicit trade-offs, small milestones, visible risks and a bias toward maintainable systems rather than clever one-offs.

Technical communication. I can move between code, architecture, project plans, teaching material and stakeholder conversations. I care about making complex systems understandable enough that others can operate, extend and teach them.

Mentoring. I have mentored student developers and taught technical workshops. I treat mentoring as an engineering multiplier: better explanations reduce future coordination cost and improve quality.

ActivityPub is a decentralised social-networking protocol based on the ActivityStreams 2.0 data format: a client-to-server API for creating, updating and deleting content, and a federated server-to-server API for delivering notifications and content. This Talks@DCC took a small tour through the history of the fediverse, the context in which ActivityPub was introduced, and the internals of its implementation — among other challenges in the software and network engineering of a federated social network — ending with the advantages of this kind of platform and the technical complications of building and maintaining one.
